Drying is the process that reduces grain moisture content to a level where it is safe for storage, making it the most critical operation after harvesting a rice crop.
Delays in drying, incomplete drying or ineffective drying will reduce the grain quality which can result in suffering product losses.
The rice dryer was originally built in 1949 and consists of three concrete structures that were used to dry and store rice. The buildings were last used in 2004. They suffered some damage to the metal roof from Hurricane Ike in 2008.
